What to do about my damaged hair?

My hair is so damaged and am wondering what I should do about it. Three and a half years ago I cut it to about an inch long. Since then I have died it soo many times, curled it, strightened it, and have done just about everything that damges hair. Most areas are at my shoulders now, but not all areas are there yet. (There are still some parts that haven't been trimmed for years.) I was looking at some ends and they are mostly split or black, like fried. How can I get my hair healthy again? And if I went to a salon how could they fix it without totally changing the way my hair looks?

you should get your hair cut in a bob as all your damaged ends would be gone then get your hair stripped of all the colours which is in your hair which can be done in the hair dressers and get them to put a hot oil treatment in your hair. if you straighten your hair try cuttind down

Dove has this amazing line of shampoos and conditioners that actually fixes damaged hair! It's especially for split ends and hair burnt to crisp by heat.

Tell you what, go to the salon, get a cute cut. Anything you want, atleast just to cut the split ends off. Get a haircut couple of inches below the shoulder, and get layers everywhere.

Start using this shampoo. http://www.dove.us/your_hair/ac_therapy_...

I guarantee within a week, you will notice a huge difference!

Once a week, coat your hair with a 'mask' of 1 egg and 1/2 cup of yogurt. Leave it in your hair for an hour, then shampoo it out.

Another mask for once a week is super hot olive oil or mustard oil. Stay away from the roots. But rub them vigorously into the ends of your hair. Shampoo and condition it out after 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, stay away from straighteners, curlers, crimpers, or any other heat styling products.

If you want curls, use foam curlers. If you want straight hair, either use Dangerously Straight from Herbal Essences or use some serum. NO HEAT!!!!

Salon quality shampoos and conditioners + leave in treatments (like biolage which I use) are a good way to help the health of your hair. But it won't repair the split ends, it will only help to rehydrate the parts of your hair that aren't fried. I suggest finding a shorter haircut, have it cut, then every month or so have it trimmed to get rid of any left over split ends. Seeing as you won't be able to get them all at once without chopping off most your hair. It takes time, steer clear of the flat iron. Try the protective thermal sprays, I personally just suggest finding a non chemical straightening balm. Redken makes an excellent one that smoothes, defrizzes, and makes your hair straight by putting some in your hair after a shower while your hair is still damp. It's Redken Align 012, also before getting out of the shower I suggest rinsing your hair with a cold splash of water to help close the hair shaft after a hot shower to make hair shiny and more manageable. Good luck.

Well, my suggestion is to naturally let your hair remoisturize.

Stop dying your hair completely and choose only shampoos and conditioners with moisturizers and without ammonium lauryl sulfate.

And if you really wanted to start fresh, cut off all your dead hair.

What to do about my damaged hair?

you can go to the salon and they may want to cut it or use deep conditioners, frutis a home remedy would be to use avocado all over your hair.

Use mayo to deep condition. Leave on 15 mins and then wash and condition like normal. (do this like 3x's a week).

If you are going to play w/ your hair that much you need to make sure you use "Professional" products or this will keep happening! Use something "Professional" for damaged hair.

Take care of your split ends but getting regular (like monthly) trims. Or else what happens is that it splits up the hair shaft damaging more of the hair which causes it to break off pretty high. This makes it nearly impossible to

grow your hair out at all.

As a hairdresser I'm going to give you some tips.

1. Get a trim - maybe layer your hair a bit.

2. Shampoo and Condition your hair properly. Do not use grocery store products. I personally love matrix. I would use the Moisture Shampoo. I would also use the Conditioning balm - but leave it on for as long as you possible can. Maybe do house work while it is on your head. This is very important- when rinsing the conditioner out try to use the COLDEST water possible as it will close your cuticle and help seal in the conditioning agent in the conditioner.

3. Use a silicone shine product (rusk has a good one) this will keep your slit ends from being noticed to much.
