I'm African-American and I want to dye my relaxed hair, but I know absolutely nothing about it. I have several questions on the subject:
*I'm looking to cut and dye my hair to look like this: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2qbyv5u%26amp;...
but with different colored streaks:
pink - http://scene-hair.skyrock.com/photo.html...
and maybe a second color. Would any sort of shade of blonde look good with my skin? It's sort of a medium-deep color.
*Is it safe to dye my hair even though it's relaxed? My stylist told me to wait 2 weeks before doing anything like that.
*How do I maintain the color and keep my hair healthy?
*Is it better to do it at home or a salon?
*If I go to a salon, about how much would it cost?
I think I've thought of everything, but if i haven't, any tips or opinions would also be greatly appreciated. Thank everyone so much!

First and foremost, when you have dark hair (as do most African-Americans), you're not dyeing your hair; you are lightening your hair.
Next, when you relax your hair, you are applying chemicals in order to alter the texture of your hair. Depending on how often your relax your hair (i.e., every four weeks, or every six weeks, or ever eight weeks), will determine whether lightening is appropriate for you.
If you relax your hair in shorter periods of time and also try to lighten your hair or do highlights, it may make your hair fall out or break off.
If you do decide to go ahead and lighten your hair or do highlights, you should have that done at a salon by professionals who are trained to work with color and lightening. Different salons charge different prices for lightening, but its not cheap - if you go to a salon and it is cheap, you probably don't want them to do it.
About keeping your hair healthy and maintaining the color; you have to make sure you use shampoos that support the colors to which you are lightening. Plus, you have to make sure you have conditioner treatments and leave in conditioners that protect your hair. The salon where you go should be able to give you advice for your hair texture.

yes its safe to dye relaxed hair but you should wait 14 -15 days ...
you should go to the salon you already to go because its not good to have a lot of different people in your hair because they might not use the same products as your stylist.
you have to use shampoo and conditioner for relaxer and color treated hair ...
and if your doing it a blonde color hightlights .. what is your natural hair color ? if its dark it might not come out the color you want ... the dark the natural color means the more processing and harsher it would be for your hair. are willing to bleach your hair? ( if you had to ) do you want it to be permanent or wash out easy?

while your hair is dyed you can't get another relaxer till the dye fades out. that can take FOREVER

since your hair is relaxed go to the salon and get it colored because if you do it at home and do it wrong you could end up with your hair breaking and falling out. i was in hair school and i seen that happen to alot of girls with relaxed hair. if i was you i would buy weave and get it glued in or sewen in.if you go to the salon and color your hair it will cost any where from $50-$100. it just depends on where you go.
