What color should i color my hair?

My real hair color is medium to dark brown. Right now I have a dark brown base with beige to pale highlights amd habe brown eyes. It is starting to look very dry and blonde is starting to look white. I want something that is VERY easy maintenance. Notice when i get highlights too fine when they grow out they look terrible as you see the dark brown and thin blonde highlights grown out. what do i do to fix this? should I just get an all over beige blonde color? But then there will be no contrast and i like the contrast. Or should I just get a lighter brown base with blonde highlights. I want little maintenance and want to keep my hair healthy but something that will look good. please advise esp a hairdresser. Best answer wins 10 points

In general, the lighter your hair is colored, the more damaged it will be. There are a lot more chemicals in light hair colors because it takes more to bring your color lighter than it does to make it darker. Of course I doubt you'd want darker hair with it already being medium brown. What I would recommend is that you go for light brown highlights. They will look more natural and whenever the highlights grow out you won't feel that your hair looks as streaky. Warm up the old highlights by adding a caramel blonde or golden brown. Have a friend or cosmetologist paint the hair color just onto your highlights, then after 5 minutes he/she will paint more color up to your roots, where the hair was previously highlighted. If you go to a cosmetologist you have a few options--either the highlighting cap or foils. My favorite is foils, especially using a diamond pattern on the top of your head. That way there are highlights dispersed everywhere instead of highlights that are obviously fake. The way that works is one point of the diamond is at the front center of your bang area, one point is over each ear, and one point is at the crown of your head. The colorist will then paint several pieces of your hair the desired color so it will fall together naturally and beautifully. Best wishes! :)

Depending on your age- a semi new style is to have the top layer of hair one color- a beige blonde and the bottom a black or brownish color. It still has the contrast in colors and is easier to maintain. Another would be to use a lighter color base and use foil highlights. With highlights you will always have to deal with growth so it really is just up to which ever you'd rather have. Regrowth- or Contrast.

try dying it one color. i had highlights for the longest time and realized it takes too much time and detail to get it right. now that i've dyed it completely all i have to do is touch up the roots every-so-often.

I don't know how old you are, but why not enjoy the natural color and texture of your hair while you can? There will be a day when you start to gray profusely and will have no choice (unless you go natural). You may notice that your hair is healthier if you give it a rest from chemicals too for awhile.

I would let your hair grow out and just add little highlights as it grows just so the difference in the colored hair and natural hair blends and doesn't look like you just stopped coloring. And then eventually stop highlighting.

When you are back to your natural color, you can choose some natural shampoos to enhance your natural color. You may find that you have natural highlights or lowlights that you didn't know you had or forgot about.

My sister is in the position of not remembering what we natural color is, and I used to dye when i was 20-24 and wish i didn't because my hair is not as thick as it once was.

for little maintenance choose a hair color that is only a shade off from your natural color, then get some coordinating highlights. I have discovered over the years that do it at home hair color while cheaper, never looks as good as when a pro does it.

if your trying to save money getting your hair color blonde then haveing brown back ground is going to cost more than having your hair brown and highlighter. blonde hair with a little contrast is more work. becuase it is a immediate upkeep with blonde hair. a must!

what i would do if i was doing your hair. since your tired of the skinny highlight. i would not give you chunks, but i would give you medium highlight and make it look natural. not stripey. most stripey highlight look horrible when it groes out. stripey to me is when you split you hair in the front in the middle and you can see the stripe going to left to right. yewl.

when you go to the hair salon start over. tell them you want to color your hair brown but have natural higlight in your hair. meaning you want all the foils to go in the same direction as the side foils at your temple, horizontal from left to right. you dont want that stripe looking on top. you want it more as a natural highlight.

p.s. if you have a natural part in your head that the hair always part at. tell them that you want you own hair color there the brown. reason why. when it start to grow out. it wont look bad until three months or more.

many hairstylist know how to do this, but most people think about the money of getting you to come back for retouch every 5/6 week. when it is not needed unless if your a blondie
