What's the most effective way to straighten your hair?

Back in 05, I cut it all off like a boy because I didn't want any more relaxers, %26amp; I wanted it to grow natural. Now it's long enough to put in a ponytail, %26amp; I haven't had a trim since. Many times, the beauticians tell me I have healthy hair. My hair is coarse %26amp; kinky but soft @ the same time. Next month, I want a new look for my birthday. I want a straight style with no chemical relaxing. Like a pressing comb %26amp; flat iron. %26amp; I'm nervous about if I might have split ends or not because lately I haven't been taking good care of my hair because of my depression. It's like I'll wash it but be too depressed %26amp; don't have the energy to comb it out, %26amp; most of the time, it'll be a dry, messy afro.

%26amp; I'm in a new town %26amp; don't know anybody. Last time I got my hair trimmed, the girl was jealous of my hair %26amp; cut it all off very quickly. My hair was relaxed @ the time. I'm afraid this might happen again. I want my hair to keep growing natural %26amp; long. I can't get perms because of sensitive scalp.
